Denim a “Do”

Hey Ladies,

Now you know I like to find cool looks and duplicate them with either what I already have or can purchase for a lower price. I love doing that.

So, as I was going through one of my emails from Banana Republic I noticed this really cool look that I knew I could do from the clothing I already own.

I am really loving the boyfriend/girlfriend style of jean. To modernize the look they are cuffed 3 to 4 inches. Looks good at 1 to 2 inches above the ankle.

Here’s the Banana Republic look: (of which I really love)

I have jeans that are not so distressed (for me I think that is too young looking).

Part of fun is how they are cuffed.

One picture is the girlfriend/boyfriend style. The other is straighter but has a deep cuff.

I have an Old Navy pair that is lighter in color but less distressed, or even a straight leg dark blue Levi jean that looks classic.

Now to make the outfit more fun, let’s add a Houndstooth purse. I am seeing this purse all over for fall. What a fun accessory to add.  Also, lets add a denim jacket. It’s a timeless classic piece.

Here is my look:

Let’s do Culottes

Hi Ladies,

Remember culottes? I’m sure if you were born after 1950 you do. Originally culottes were worn in the 1800’s so women could ride horses and or bicycles more easily.  They returned a few more times: in the 1960’s and again in the 1970’s. Sometimes they were referred to as gaucho pants but ultimately they looked the same.

This year, they are back again. Several different styles and lengths.  I recently decided to get a pair. I figured black would be a good color, simple, and easy to pick tops to wear with.

P1030499   I really love this length. You could go longer.                P1030499_3

Black Pumps – Nine West

What updates them is wearing pumps. You are seeing pumps with everything this year including jeans, shorts, and culottes. I am in love with the lower heel D’orsay style.  I  purchased the black Nine West pumps shown months ago but recently purchased this nude color from a Nordstrom Rack (one of my favorite places to shop).

These are Charles by Charles David.

This lower heel is comfortable and goes with everything. The nude color is makes you seem taller. more statuesque.

TIPS:

Heels modernize culottes

Chunky flats pair well too

Softer shape tops with culottes

In doubt, wear black

Until next time  Happy shopping!

White Hot Summer Styles

Now that summer is in full swing, the heat is on and trending is also on.  White is the new ‘in’ shade.

Instead of the LBD (little black dress) we gals are looking for the LWD (little white dress).  For Example:

The dresses were all less than $50(except the one similar-which was $149
and the last one Ann Klein was $69). All were lace or cotton. Lace is a big trend now.

I decided on this one. I felt it would be great for any summer event. It’s from White House/Black Market, get ready, on sale $39.

*FYI for anyone who lives in the Houston area, I have a gem that I just discovered.

This is a great place to shop.

There are two locations already open and a third ready to open soon.  I stopped in recently and spoke with some of the sales ladies. What a great bunch!

So keeping with white, while I was there I picked up this great Lilla * P long sleeve t-shirt. It’s lightweight and I know I can wear it even in the hot summer days of Texas.

MY TIPS:

1. You can pair any color with white.

2. The brighter the color the better, think RED.

3. Keep it simple.

Calling all ladies 40 & over! Do you love fashion?  I’m not just talking about clothes, but shoes,  jewelry, and all the accessories. If the answer is yes then come with me to find the most elegant but still trendy way to pull an outfit together. Ladies, we may be older (lol) but we still have “it”.

I started this blog because now after turning 60, I believe we can still look good.

What’s better than to try out new stylish trends? Getting the best deal for something trendy and new but at a lower price, who wouldn’t want that?
I definitely have an agenda for writing this blog.  My mission is one, to seek out the best deal for fashionable items and pass on the information to others and two, show how to style new trends.

My new obsession is shoes.  Who wouldn’t want STYLISH, COMFORTABLE , & TRENDY.  Luckily this year is full of shoes to fit that. The “Sporty” look is really hot now.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Native -Rubber slip-ons (Whole Earth Provision)

Keds

All cost less than $40. You could pay more but why?

Here’s a comparison of similar styles. The gold ones were bought in

a specialty boutique. They cost $65 as compared to $40.

That’s what I mean by comparative shopping.

However, the gold ones are unique and different.

While usually worn with shorts and pants, dresses and skirts are good too. You choose. It all works!

This ankle-strap style of shoe is also big this year. I have seen them at department stores ranging from $40.00 and up. These I just purchased at Old Navy. To me they are so similar that it does not make sense to spend a lot, (similar here)

These were on sale for only, get ready, $20.00

J.Crew-Wool-Pencil-Skirt

On the left is the Pantone color this year which is Marsala, a reddish brown color.

Whether its a clothing piece or an accessory, you can mix it with any other piece.

Pantone is an organization which sets the color standards for manufacturers, retail, and designers each year. Fashion follows their lead for the new seasons. Each year features a new color.

MY TIPS:

1.  Crop tops are OK (Wear with high waisted garments, or with a cami under)

2.  Dress length to knee or below

3. Heels, heels, heels! (Any height that’s comfortable)
