The “White” Time of the Year!

Hi Everyone,

It’s Spring!! and time for breaking some rules.

Wearing white shoes after Labor Day and before Memorial Day used to

be the “thing not to do” but, those days are over!

I like that. It’s fun to do whatever you think feels trendy and fun.

On trend just in time for Easter:

White shoes

Bows

Buckles

(remember when we were kids in the 50’s and 60’s)

Lets start with flats

Prices can be enormously different for example: The first shoes were Net A Porter.

They rang in at over $900. Crazy right?

The laser cut flats I bought at Old Navy; guess what, $20.00.

 Kitten Heels

(with bows)

(Close up)

The striped mules are from the Popsugar website and can be purchased at ASOS.

I bought the Nine West style from TJ Maxx for only $39.99. The ASOS pair was a similar price.

So you see you can spend whatever your budget allows. But definitely not a fortune.

These white Mules with the bow are so adorable you can wear them with anything from pants to a skirt or dress.

(probably even shorts)!!!!

So go get your Easter bonnet on and some white bow shoes.

Fall Layering ideas

Hey All,

It’s that time of year.  As the weather gets cooler you can still keep some styles but, update them by adding layers.

For example:

I posted this last year (Feb. 2016) when styling a dress over pants first started trending.

So let’s go with that and add:

A sweater, scarf, or both to update and change up this look.  How fun.

Note same mini dress and staying in the same color.  Add a scarf for flair and you have a new look.

A nice touch for cooler temps.

I saw something similar to this on a blog site:

(credit to justthedesign.com)

It shows the same concept.

TIPS:

  • Add boots

  • Add a lightweight jacket

  • A cool hat!

See what else you can come up with!!

Until next time,

March On!

Happy March!

For some of us “Spring has Sprung.” It’s nice and warm here but,

I know some of you are still in winter mode.

So that being said, what’s fun for springtime fashion?

Over the past year the trend has been off-shoulder styles. Whether it’s a top or dress.

I really like this but, I am hesitant to wear this ( you know age and all!).  The good part is throughout the winter time it also included sweaters.

I was please to see this trend is still in for 2017.

Here are some examples I found surfing the fashion sites:

This one is a little different

( Anthropology)

I really love that there are options, so if you don’t want the complete bare shoulder look, you have options.

Remember at this age instead of short or low-cut clothing, we can still be sexy baring a shoulder or two!

Until Next Time

It’s also the time of year to be festive. Let’s get to another new trend.

My style for December 2016 is bell sleeves. So fun especially at Christmas (get it – bells!)

I found this amazing blouse at Belk. I thought it was super cute.

Here’s a closer look. I love this sleeve so girly and feminine.

It also has a peplum  bottom, definitely flattering on everyone.

I’m also showing some other bell-sleeve outfits especially for the holidays.

Cropped For Fall

Hi Ladies,

It is finally that time of year when summer meets autumn.  I love the fall. The colors are bright. The days are still warm but, the nights are beginning to cool down.

It’s a great time to take some summer fashions into fall.  Everywhere you look styles are changing.  But who wants to buy everything new?

While volunteering last week at Dress For Success I decided to try out a trend I have been noticing.

Wearing a crop top over a shirt.

All summer I saw cropped styled tops. I am so too old for them but…. I can always find a way!

p1040102

What do you think?

It shows a new fun look.  I got a lot of compliments from the other ladies. I’d say it was a good idea.

Here’s some more examples I found surfing through the fashion mags and on-line sites.

Now the crop top I am wearing is a type of corset top. Spandex and cotton.

Ready for this? I bought it at Forever 21 and it was only $5.00.  I also bought this one (again $5).

It’s a knit material. Lightweight and comfortable.

It’s also a fun way to add to a plain white button-down shirt.

p1040111

(plain white button-down shirt from Old Navy)

The versatility of this is how many combinations: slacks, jeans, and even skirts you can mix.

So whether you are going to work, going out for fun, on a date, or with friends you can style this trend.

Even us 40, 50, & 60’s group can.

STYLES 2 STAY

I started this blog a year ago. It’s funny how some of the trends have carried over from last summer to this summer.

First:  Athletic wear sneakers were the rage. They still are, and even more so.

Last year you saw a lot of Keds and Converse.

The shoes are getting a bit chunkier in style, like Addidas.

Some are even platform.

Second:   Last year all white was huge. It still is now, along with monochromatic styles.

      2015                               2016

P1030488

main.original.640x0c

2016 brings higher waist pants and lots of white button downs.

Third:   Culottes came back with  new lengths.  Again, they are still showing in all the ads and magazines.

(Target  $27.99)

This 2016 version is paired with the over the shoulder top, very big this year.

Which I think is nice considering all you have to do is change up part of the outfit and some accessories to make them look new again.

I have seen these pieces cost much more but why not pay less. I guess a good thing is they are  still around. You get much more wear for the money.

Until next time

Monochrome Looks for May – Daytime

Photo on 3-17-16 at 8.28 AM

Gals, can you believe it’s May already?

Where has the year gone? It’s getting warm outside and colors for summer are getting lighter.

Trending now are outfits in monochrome colors.

Most often in beige, tan, or greys.  Since both are neutral and light shades, they make a great choice.

You can do so much with these neutral colors.

Last month one of the comments I received was to show ideas for shorts or capris. So I decided to show these together.

Here’s some monochrome sets to try:

This picture is showing neutral light greys

Below is an example using shades of beige – tan.

The shorts are Khaki & Company ( from Sam’s Club) similar & similar here.

The tops can be any tank or t-shirt.

The first sweater I have featured previously: Cabi, the other I picked up at Burlington.

I like the idea of light-weight sweaters because air conditioning can be cool indoors sometimes.

They also can be taken off,  so more versatile.

TIPS

  • Add bright color accessories

  • Try sneakers or any sandal to dress it up or down

  • Use mixed textures of similar hue

Fashion on the Fringe

Hey Fashion Ladies,

I’m a sucker for trendy and a bit edgy fashion.  I think it brings a lot of fun into any outfit.

My new obsession is a cropped length jean with no hem, just frayed on the bottom.  Nothing too extreme.  I also love some fray in the legs but again not too bare. I have seen several styles for example:

P1040001

Some of the jeans are too torn, especially in the knee area.

But some styles are so fun. They are not too torn, just slightly.  I also believe they look great with sneakers or you can dress them up with heels. Either way I think the look is workable.  Here are two examples I have seen:

BBqgigK.img

I think even at my age I can definitely pull this off!

So, here is how I styled the frayed jean look for a casual look.

Jeans – Zara           Shoes – Adidas

Or a little dressed up

Shoes – Nine West (Older style)

Either way I think it looks great.

See you next time.

Let’s Layer

Hi, remember back in Junior & High School ( this is for us baby boomers) there was a actually a dress code that did not allow girls to wear pants to school. Maybe not all schools but definitely mine in the Northeast. A common practice in the winter season was walking to school with a pair of pants under a dress or skirt.  What a drag that was because once you got to school you would have to change. But at the same time warmth was a priority.

Who thought this combination could become a fashion trend? Well it did.

I saw this in a recent posting and thought how cute!

Worn-Over-Pants-Under-Warm-Jacket

It definitely looks different than I remember!!

Also, shorter length dresses and skirts are back but, I believe I’m too old to wear one. I set out to put a similar look together.

I decided not to add the coat and hat (let’s make it simple.)

So after some changes I went with this.

P1030758

Jeans – Gap     Dress – H&M      Shoes – Nine West (similar)

What do you think?

Jeans are always a classic so I added this Mini dress from H&M (which is now on sale).

It’s mixing two styles to create a cool different look. I added the low heel pumps to look more modern. You could substitute for wedge heels.

Some could wear the dress alone, I just chose not to. I like the look. It works for in-between weather especially with Spring on the way!

TIPS

  • Look outside the box

  • Keep with transitional pieces

  • Have fun with it

Mad 4 PLAID

Photo on 2015-05-18 at 12.40

First, I would like to thank the people who  have taken the time to read and follow my blog. I appreciate all comments and hope if there is anything in particular you would like me to style please ask. I received some about the hat from my last post, so I plan to feature it again.

Here is closeup of the hat. I bought it at Burlington but, I have seen similar ones in many other stores and also in a variety of colors.

Similar:

That said, let’s style plaids.

Don’t you love it when a specific piece keeps evolving over and over? Plaid has been in trend for what seems like, always. It’s back in a big way this fall but what’s fun is how to pair plaids.  Usually you think of plaid with jeans or casual attire.

work-office-outfit-pencil-skirt-with-love-from-kat-h724

I saw this picture and loved it, basically because it’s not something I would have thought to do, styling a cotton or flannel shirt with something dressy.

Who would of thought to put a casual plaid shirt with a leather pencil skirt and strappy heels. Where I live, I don’t own a great deal of leather.  It never really gets that cold here. So I traded it for a knit pencil skirt.

P1030716

Skirt – Tahari

Shirt – H&M

What a great idea!

(The dog is another accessory!)

So What else could you do? I love comfy cardigan sweaters. they are so versatile. I layered this sleeveless plaid flannel shirt under it for in-between weather.

P1030721

Then add boots and you have a great look.

The fun part about this is you can wear the shirt when the weather is warmer by itself.

AS ALWAYS
