Trending Menswear

Hey all you fashionable ladies,

We are getting close to the year’s end. I still have a few trends to show.

Today is about Menswear.  It’s making a comeback.

It’s also really fun styling this idea.  I love mixing masculine with feminine.

Here’s some examples:

First, showing a gray menswear plaid.

I am wearing pants with an added white button down shirt.

But with this I decided to add a fun crop light-weight sweater with the same burgundy color as in the pant.

My dress form shows a similar print blazer over a plain black dress.  Great for work or any event.

Now the cool thing is I purchased these pants at Target! The “A New Day” collection.

Reasonably priced and can be mixed with many other options.

The blazer also moderately priced from Cato at less than $40.00

How could you possibly go wrong?

Here’s a closer look at the blazer:

——————————————————————————————-

In sticking with the suit trend I found another interesting possibility.

This time a more unconventional Menswear suit.

I really love this. Both pieces can be intermixed with other pants, skirts sweaters etc.

Here’s closer look at this print: a brownish mixed color.

H&M – Each piece $35.00

It’s a little different than the jacket and pant suit. I like “out of the box” looks.

Again you could wear the top with a plain color pant or skirt or visa versa.

Add some pearls or other jewelry or maybe a scarf.

Either way so many options!

Until next time

Fall Layering ideas

Hey All,

It’s that time of year.  As the weather gets cooler you can still keep some styles but, update them by adding layers.

For example:

I posted this last year (Feb. 2016) when styling a dress over pants first started trending.

So let’s go with that and add:

A sweater, scarf, or both to update and change up this look.  How fun.

Note same mini dress and staying in the same color.  Add a scarf for flair and you have a new look.

A nice touch for cooler temps.

I saw something similar to this on a blog site:

(credit to justthedesign.com)

It shows the same concept.

TIPS:

  • Add boots

  • Add a lightweight jacket

  • A cool hat!

See what else you can come up with!!

Until next time,

Summer 2 Fall

Hey Ya’ll…

It’s the end of summer. I know for some of us the weather is still very warm. That said, we can add pieces to summer styles to take them into Fall.

For example – Hooded sweatshirts. My new favorite!

Long or cropped in length it all works.

This lightweight navy hoodie from Old Navy  works well when the temps just begin to go down.

(on sale for $7.99)

(Nordstrom)

So many different ways to wear one.  Layered over a shirt like this one I saw in a Nordstrom ad.

My Version:

(Hoodie from Mango $39.00)

(White button-down shirt)

This tunic length hoodie can be worn  by itself or over something.

A younger me would have worn this!!

(H&M)

But now I would pick one of these options.

  • Leggings

  • Skinny jeans

  • Skirt

(Hoodie – H&M $24.99)

Or even layered under a denim jacket for cooler temperature times when you still don’t yet need a coat.

There are so many options to try.

Go see what you can come up with.

I would love to hear your ideas.

COATIGANS – NEW TREND

Funny how new trends come in and are identified in a certain way.

While trying to stay current and express new ideas, the fashion industry  likes to shake things up by introducing  “a new style.”

This “new” style is the Coatigan. By definition it’s the combination of a coat and a cardigan sweater. Great for this time of year.

This new trend can be lighter in weight so that layering can make the difference on how warm you want to be!

I went searching for some examples:

p1040124

They can be with or without buttons as shown above. I found these two at a Zara store.

Both moderately priced. They look like a coat but are sweater material.

I found this checked one at Old Navy.

p1040126

All of the coats were under $80.00.  The one at old Navy was only $50.

I bought one from Nordstrom Rack. I love the color, very neutral.

So cute and only $39.99.

Version 2

You can find them anywhere with prices as high or low as you would like to go.

They are great for layering and in-between weather.

Cropped For Fall

Hi Ladies,

It is finally that time of year when summer meets autumn.  I love the fall. The colors are bright. The days are still warm but, the nights are beginning to cool down.

It’s a great time to take some summer fashions into fall.  Everywhere you look styles are changing.  But who wants to buy everything new?

While volunteering last week at Dress For Success I decided to try out a trend I have been noticing.

Wearing a crop top over a shirt.

All summer I saw cropped styled tops. I am so too old for them but…. I can always find a way!

p1040102

What do you think?

It shows a new fun look.  I got a lot of compliments from the other ladies. I’d say it was a good idea.

Here’s some more examples I found surfing through the fashion mags and on-line sites.

Now the crop top I am wearing is a type of corset top. Spandex and cotton.

Ready for this? I bought it at Forever 21 and it was only $5.00.  I also bought this one (again $5).

It’s a knit material. Lightweight and comfortable.

It’s also a fun way to add to a plain white button-down shirt.

(plain white button-down shirt from Old Navy)

The versatility of this is how many combinations: slacks, jeans, and even skirts you can mix.

So whether you are going to work, going out for fun, on a date, or with friends you can style this trend.

Even us 40, 50, & 60’s group can.

Mad 4 PLAID

Photo on 2015-05-18 at 12.40

First, I would like to thank the people who  have taken the time to read and follow my blog. I appreciate all comments and hope if there is anything in particular you would like me to style please ask. I received some about the hat from my last post, so I plan to feature it again.

Here is closeup of the hat. I bought it at Burlington but, I have seen similar ones in many other stores and also in a variety of colors.

That said, let’s style plaids.

Don’t you love it when a specific piece keeps evolving over and over? Plaid has been in trend for what seems like, always. It’s back in a big way this fall but what’s fun is how to pair plaids.  Usually you think of plaid with jeans or casual attire.

I saw this picture and loved it, basically because it’s not something I would have thought to do, styling a cotton or flannel shirt with something dressy.

Who would of thought to put a casual plaid shirt with a leather pencil skirt and strappy heels. Where I live, I don’t own a great deal of leather.  It never really gets that cold here. So I traded it for a knit pencil skirt.

Skirt – Tahari

Shirt – H&M

What a great idea!

(The dog is another accessory!)

So What else could you do? I love comfy cardigan sweaters. they are so versatile. I layered this sleeveless plaid flannel shirt under it for in-between weather.

P1030721

Then add boots and you have a great look.

The fun part about this is you can wear the shirt when the weather is warmer by itself.

AS ALWAYS

Tennis & Sparkle Anyone?

Who remembers the tennis sweater? I was wearing it in junior high.  I guess that makes us children born in the 50’s and 60’s. Back then they were white sweaters with navy and burgundy stripes on the v-neck, sleeves, and across the bottom.

il_570xN.563434297_n1ld

That was pretty much your only choice. They are back!!  Looking a bit different plus you can find them as sweaters, sweatshirts, and in different colors.

Now you have so many other choices.

I picked this one up in a specialty store in Houston.  I loved it at first glance.  It’s sweatshirt material and looks great with pants or a skirt, for daytime or nighttime.

Since sparkle and sequins are also in for fall, I decided to pair the tennis sweatshirt I bought with this trend.  It’s a fun look.

This is how I styled it:

Since this particular top would not be easily found I searched for other choices, (love the hat also)

The black sequin skirt was a previous purchase but this one is similar.

The pants are NYDJ, black with sequin tuxedo strip down the leg shown here.

  • Sequins for daytime

  • Be Unconventional

  • Accessorize with hats, belts, and fun shoewear

Trench Coats & Dusters Oh, My!

P1030631

Well it’s the season for coats and jackets. Layering is essential for moving from Summer to Fall.

I am loving the trench style coats they are showing. Actually some of them are more of a Duster type coat, many with no buttons, but longer in length.

I recently purchased this one at you won’t believe where, Forever 21. I thought that store was more geared to younger ages but it goes to show if you seek you will find!!

P1030651

 Forever 21

I purchased this coat online for $52.00 plus s&h but it was also on sale so it was barely over $50 total.

There were different colors but I like the tan (neutral) best. I figured it would be more versatile.

Here are some I found similar like this one on ShopStyle.

or here @ H&M

You can also add accessories, a big floppy hat like the picture above.

Let’s try a scarf. Its one of the fall colors out, wine or merlot.

  • Be creative

Transition To Fall

Hi Ladies,

You know it is almost the end of summer. However, here in Texas it is still really warm. I could keep showing styles for summer temperatures but for many the days and especially nights are becoming cooler.  So let’s talk about transition options.

I am loving two new Fall trends, one is carried over from the summer, which is the classic shirtdress.  They were shown all summer usually in a light color or white cotton. I just picked up a military green shirtdress, which is the 2nd of the two trends I mentioned.  It has been called the “Utilitarian”.  That can refer to uniform like. Anything in that green or khaki color is big for the season.

This dress is really versatile and can be worn with flat shoes for casual or have some fun with it.

For example:

Flats

P1030510

Or more edgey and fun add some chunky bootie type shoes

P1030512

Here another idea. Let’s take this same dress and use it as a coat.  Fall styles have shown wearing a dress over pants.  In this instance it is similar to a classic trench, lightweight, for a typical fall day. Then to dress it up throw on some heels.  Again in the beige or nude color that is really in and makes you look taller and thinner in my opinion. And why not add a belt!

P1030515

P1030517

I picked up this dress at T J Maxx for $34.99 which I thought was a deal considering it’s a Kenneth Cole Reaction (with a price tag of $89.99) or similar here.

TIPS:

Play with different options of a classic piece

Dress it up or down

Keep it simple – use accessories to update

Until next time
