New Age Denim

It’s February, still winter for some but here it’s mild.

Denim has always been timeless.  The styles just evolve over the years.  This year we are seeing a lot of the distressed look.

Whether it is torn  along the legs or just an uneven jagged-style hem.

I just purchased this pair from Old Navy. They were originally $49.99 but were on sale for $35.

I thought they were super cute, esp. the darker wash.

Only the bottom hem is unfinished.

I paired it with a lightweight over-size type blazer which is also big this spring!

Here are a few others for example:

You can see there are different styles to choose from.

Whether you layer up or just throw on a light jacket of some sort, it works.

Until next time

Fashion on the Fringe

Hey Fashion Ladies,

I’m a sucker for trendy and a bit edgy fashion.  I think it brings a lot of fun into any outfit.

My new obsession is a cropped length jean with no hem, just frayed on the bottom.  Nothing too extreme.  I also love some fray in the legs but again not too bare. I have seen several styles for example:

Some of the jeans are too torn, especially in the knee area.

But some styles are so fun. They are not too torn, just slightly.  I also believe they look great with sneakers or you can dress them up with heels. Either way I think the look is workable.  Here are two examples I have seen:

I think even at my age I can definitely pull this off!

So, here is how I styled the frayed jean look for a casual look.

Either way I think it looks great.

Let’s Layer

Hi, remember back in Junior & High School ( this is for us baby boomers) there was a actually a dress code that did not allow girls to wear pants to school. Maybe not all schools but definitely mine in the Northeast. A common practice in the winter season was walking to school with a pair of pants under a dress or skirt.  What a drag that was because once you got to school you would have to change. But at the same time warmth was a priority.

Who thought this combination could become a fashion trend? Well it did.

I saw this in a recent posting and thought how cute!

It definitely looks different than I remember!!

Also, shorter length dresses and skirts are back but, I believe I’m too old to wear one. I set out to put a similar look together.

I decided not to add the coat and hat (let’s make it simple.)

So after some changes I went with this.

Jeans – Gap     Dress – H&M      Shoes – Nine West (similar)

What do you think?

Jeans are always a classic so I added this Mini dress from H&M (which is now on sale).

It’s mixing two styles to create a cool different look. I added the low heel pumps to look more modern. You could substitute for wedge heels.

Some could wear the dress alone, I just chose not to. I like the look. It works for in-between weather especially with Spring on the way!

TIPS

  • Look outside the box

  • Keep with transitional pieces

  • Have fun with it

th

Denim a “Do”

Hey Ladies,

Now you know I like to find cool looks and duplicate them with either what I already have or can purchase for a lower price. I love doing that.

So, as I was going through one of my emails from Banana Republic I noticed this really cool look that I knew I could do from the clothing I already own.

I am really loving the boyfriend/girlfriend style of jean. To modernize the look they are cuffed 3 to 4 inches. Looks good at 1 to 2 inches above the ankle.

Here’s the Banana Republic look: (of which I really love)

I have jeans that are not so distressed (for me I think that is too young looking).

Part of fun is how they are cuffed.

One picture is the girlfriend/boyfriend style. The other is straighter but has a deep cuff.

I have an Old Navy pair that is lighter in color but less distressed, or even a straight leg dark blue Levi jean that looks classic.

Now to make the outfit more fun, let’s add a Houndstooth purse. I am seeing this purse all over for fall. What a fun accessory to add.  Also, lets add a denim jacket. It’s a timeless classic piece.
